‘Mushroom Cloud’ Fireball Erupts As Fuel Tanker Explodes In Mexico

A gas tanker truck allegedly carrying stolen fuel exploded in the Mexican state of Puebla on Thursday morning, triggering a massive fireball and prompting large-scale evacuations in surrounding areas. The incident occurred near Tepeaca, a small city located around 35 kilometres east of the state capital, Puebla, and caused panic among residents as flames and thick smoke engulfed the site.
According to reports, the explosion took place around 10 a.m. on a property in Tepeaca. Shortly after the fire began, the tanker detonated, producing a large mushroom-shaped fireball that was visible from a distance. Videos shared on social media captured the intensity of the blast, showing a sudden explosion followed by a loud bang and rapidly rising black smoke.
In another widely circulated clip, panic spread across nearby streets as people were seen running away from the explosion site. The scale of the fire prompted immediate emergency response efforts, with authorities rushing to contain the blaze and secure the surrounding area to prevent further damage or secondary explosions.

Puebla’s Civil Protection authorities said approximately 2,000 people were evacuated as a precautionary measure. The evacuation included patients from a nearby hospital, students from schools, and residents of adjacent neighbourhoods. Officials acted swiftly to move people to safer locations as the fire continued to burn.
Preliminary reports suggest the tanker may have been transporting illegally siphoned or smuggled fuel at the time of the explosion. However, the exact cause of the blast has not yet been confirmed. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and further details regarding casualties or injuries are still awaited. Emergency teams remain deployed in the area as containment and safety operations continue, while officials assess the extent of damage caused by the explosion and its impact on nearby infrastructure.
