Monsoon Session: Govt Assured Openness to Debate All Issues

Opposition targets Pahalgam attack, Trump’s claims, and Bihar voter roll issues.

The all-party meeting in New Delhi set the stage for a heated Monsoon Session of Parliament, starting July 21, as opposition leaders pressed the government on critical issues, including the Pahalgam terror attack, US President Donald Trump’s ceasefire claims, and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in Bihar. The government, represented by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and Union Minister J P Nadda, assured openness to discuss all concerns while urging coordination for a smooth session.

Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi address Trump’s repeated claims of brokering a ceasefire during India-Pakistan tensions post-Operation Sindoor, alongside the “lapses” in the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people, with perpetrators still at large. “It’s incumbent on PM Modi to give a statement in Parliament,” Gogoi told reporters. Aam Aadmi Party’s Sanjay Singh raised concerns over an alleged “poll scam” in Bihar’s SIR, calling it a threat to voting rights, while clarifying AAP’s independent stance in assembly polls.

BJD’s Sasmit Patra criticized the “failing” law and order in Odisha, citing incidents like a student’s self-immolation, and demanded a parliamentary debate. CPI(M)’s John Brittas echoed calls for Modi to clarify Trump’s Operation Sindoor claims and the Pahalgam attack. The INDIA bloc, comprising 24 parties, resolved to highlight eight issues, including foreign policy failures and voter suppression in Bihar, alleging an “undeclared Emergency.”
