Marco Rubio Visits Amer Fort In Jaipur, Receives Traditional Rajasthani Welcome

Marco Rubio visits Amer Fort in Jaipur, explores Kachwaha dynasty heritage.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday visited the historic Amer Fort in Jaipur along with his wife Janet D. Rubio, where he received a traditional Rajasthani welcome as part of a high-profile diplomatic and cultural engagement during his India visit.

The Rubio couple was welcomed at Jaleb Chowk inside the Amer Palace complex with folk performances showcasing Rajasthan’s cultural heritage. Artists performed traditional dances such as Ghoomar, Kalbelia, and Kutchi Ghodi, highlighting the region’s vibrant folk traditions. The ceremonial reception was arranged as part of efforts to present Rajasthan’s heritage as a key element of India’s cultural diplomacy.

During the visit, the US delegation was briefed on the history and architecture of the Amer Fort, which was built by the Kachwaha dynasty of Jaipur. Guides explained the significance of major sections of the palace, including the Sheesh Mahal, Ganesh Pol, Diwan-e-Aam, Diwan-e-Khas, Sukh Niwas, and Maotha Lake. Officials said Rubio spent around 20 minutes at the site and showed keen interest in the fort’s historical details.

According to tour officials, Rubio particularly focused on the Sheesh Mahal and its intricate mirror work, expressing curiosity about its artistic design. He was also briefed on the British-era influences present within the palace complex, including features in the Diwan-e-Aam, which reportedly contains an English-style billiards room dating back to the colonial period.

Rubio arrived in Jaipur from Agra, where he had earlier visited the Taj Mahal, reaching Jaipur airport around 1:30 pm under tight security arrangements. The Amer Fort was temporarily closed to tourists during his visit, and traffic movement along the route from the airport to the fort was restricted to ensure security and smooth movement of the delegation.

Following the Amer Fort tour, Rubio and his wife proceeded to the Rambagh Palace, with sources indicating that further cultural engagements involving Indian and US delegations were planned for the evening. The visit is being viewed as part of broader efforts to strengthen India-US ties while showcasing Jaipur’s heritage as a centre of cultural diplomacy and international engagement.
