Malaysia Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Chennai After Engine Fault

A Malaysia Airlines flight carrying 186 passengers made a safe emergency landing at Chennai airport after reportedly developing an engine problem during its journey from Kuala Lumpur. Flight MH156 was approaching Chennai when a suspected fault was detected in its second engine, prompting the pilot to alert air traffic control and request an emergency landing.

Airport authorities responded by placing emergency services on standby as the aircraft prepared to land. Ambulances, fire engines and personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) were deployed as a precautionary measure. The aircraft subsequently landed safely at Chennai airport without any reported incident during the landing.

All 186 passengers were safely evacuated after the aircraft arrived at the airport. Their baggage was also removed from the aircraft following the landing. No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew, according to the information available about the incident.

The suspected engine problem is expected to be examined as part of an investigation into the incident. Aviation authorities in Delhi and Chennai are looking into the circumstances surrounding the reported engine issue. The incident comes amid another recent case involving an aircraft reporting an engine problem during flight. An IndiGo flight travelling from Goa to Delhi had earlier returned to Goa after a midair engine failure was reported. Air traffic control declared a full emergency as the aircraft turned back, before it landed safely and passengers were accommodated in the boarding area.

The Malaysia Airlines incident nevertheless ended without injuries, with the emergency response allowing the aircraft to land safely and passengers to disembark. Authorities are expected to assess the aircraft and determine the cause of the reported engine problem as part of the ongoing investigation. Further findings could provide more information about what led the Kuala Lumpur-Chennai flight to seek an emergency landing.
