U.S. Leaders Slam Pahalgam Attack, Vow Support for India
FBI Director Kash Patel denounced the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives, as a grim reminder of global terrorism.
The assault, perpetrated by The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, has sparked widespread condemnation. Patel, on X, stated, “The FBI sends our condolences to all the victims of the recent terrorist attack in Kashmir -- and will continue offering our full support to the Indian government. This is a reminder of the constant threats our world faces from the evils of terrorism. Pray for those affected. Thank you to the men and women of law enforcement who answer the call in moments like these.”
This message draws significant importance as for the first time, its not just an official communique from the US Government, denouncing the attack. There has been condemnation at multiple levels of the government.

President Donald Trump, in a call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 23, condemned the attack. The Ministry of External Affairs posted on X, “President Donald Trump called PM Narendra Modi and conveyed his deepest condolences at the loss of innocent lives in the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. President Trump strongly condemned the terror attack and expressed full support to India to bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous attack. India and the United States stand together in the fight against terror.”
Traveling to Rome for Pope Francis’ funeral, Trump dismissed mediation between India and Pakistan, saying, “There have been tensions on that border for 1500 years. But they'll get it figured out one way or the other. I'm sure of that I know both leaders.”
U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard also added on X, “We are with you and support you as you hunt down those responsible for this heinous attack.” The U.S. response highlights robust counter-terrorism ties with India, and has to be seen in line with the US-China trade wars and escalating global re-alignments.
