#EXCLUSIVE: War Chemicals from China Caused Iran Blast! Find Out What Happened

Explosion at Bandar Abbas Port Linked to Chinese Missile Fuel Shipment

A massive explosion rocked Iran’s Shahid Rajaee port in Bandar Abbas on April 26, 2025, killing at least 28 and injuring over 800, according to state media.

In a startling revelation, a source tied to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) told The New York Times the blast was caused by sodium perchlorate, a key component in solid fuel for ballistic missiles, recently shipped from China.

The private security firm Ambrey confirmed the port received a shipment of this chemical in March 2025, aligning with reports from the Financial Times that Chinese vessels delivered missile fuel to Iran in January to replenish stocks depleted by attacks on Israel during the Gaza conflict.

The nearest footage available online from moments leading up to the explosion show orange smoke, likely nitrogen dioxide, being produced by a fire interacting with a still unknown chemical. The Chemical compounds capable of producing such smoke and the blast include ammonium nitrate, nitrogen tetroxide and nitric acid, and its possible that one or all of these chemicals are stored regularly at Bandar Abbas.

The explosion, which triggered a state of emergency and closed schools and offices due to toxic air pollution, has raised questions about Iran’s storage practices, especially after the 2020 Beirut port disaster.

Iranian officials have not confirmed the cause, with some denying links to oil infrastructure. The U.S. State Department previously verified China’s role in supplying Iran with missile fuel components, escalating tensions amid ongoing U.S.-Iran nuclear talks in Oman.

The strategic port, handling 80 million tons of cargo annually, is critical to Iran’s economy and military operations. Unconfirmed reports on X suggest improper storage may have contributed to the blast.

As fires continue to burn, President Masoud Pezeshkian has ordered an investigation, while international aid, including from Russia, pours in to address the crisis.
