Israeli Authorities Share Netanyahu Image To Refute Viral Death Rumours

Israel shares Netanyahu photo to counter death rumours, but social media questions whether the image is current.

Amid circulating rumours about Benjamin Netanyahu’s death, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office on Tuesday shared a photo of him in a command setting to assert that he is alive and actively performing his duties. The image, posted on the office’s official X account, was captioned: “Photo: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordering the elimination of senior Iranian regime officials.”

The move comes as unverified claims spread online suggesting Netanyahu had been killed or seriously injured in Iranian strikes. Israeli authorities and independent fact-checkers have repeatedly dismissed these reports, emphasizing that the prime minister continues to oversee government and military operations amid rising tensions with Iran.

The shared photograph was presented as proof of Netanyahu’s ongoing involvement in strategic decisions. However, some social media users questioned the authenticity and timeliness of the image. British-Iraqi rapper Lowkey claimed that the photo had originally been published on February 4, 2026, suggesting it was being reused rather than reflecting a new appearance.

Others noted visual similarities between the newly posted image and older media coverage, pointing out identical settings, attire, and accompanying officials. These observations raised questions about whether the photograph accurately represented Netanyahu’s current activities or was a repurposed image with an updated caption.

According to AI analysis by Grok, the photograph first appeared in Haaretz coverage of Netanyahu during a security meeting related to Hezbollah operations. The AI noted that the image had been reused by the Prime Minister’s Office and was not taken on March 17, despite claims implied by the post.

While the photograph reinforces that Netanyahu remains visible and involved in governmental operations, the timing and reuse of the image underscore the challenge of verifying information amid fast-moving rumours and online speculation during geopolitical tensions.
