Netanyahu Video Leads To Deepfake Claims, Israeli Ambassador Confirms PM Alive
Netizens spot disappearing ring in Netanyahu video, sparking deepfake rumours; Israel confirms PM alive.
A new video of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted on his X account has reignited speculation about deepfakes and AI-generated content, as online viewers noted a "disappearing ring" in the footage. The video, shared on Monday, shows Netanyahu interacting with citizens at a scenic location, but social media users quickly pointed out that the ring on his left hand appears to vanish momentarily.
This comes amid ongoing online rumors about Netanyahu’s wellbeing, including unverified claims of his death in an alleged Iranian strike. The video posted on Monday is the second recent clip prompting deepfake allegations, following a Sunday video in which Netanyahu was seen drinking coffee inside a cafe while mocking reports of his death.
Users on X highlighted anomalies in the video, with one commenting, “His ring on the left hand disappeared between seconds 0.09 and 0.10,” while another joked about the “very cool disappearing ring.” Observers have also pointed to other subtle inconsistencies, such as shifting jacket pockets and coffee movement, as possible indicators of AI manipulation.

Adding to the controversy, X’s AI chatbot, Grok, labeled the video as “AI-generated” content, further fueling online speculation. Many social media users continue to debate whether the videos are genuine or digitally altered, despite the clips being intended to dispel rumors about the Prime Minister.
Israel’s ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, sought to quell the rumors on Monday, confirming that Netanyahu is alive. “Prime Minister Netanyahu is alive. I saw him personally when I was in Israel more than once,” Azar stated, adding that misinformation is rampant amid ongoing regional tensions.
Despite official reassurance, the circulation of videos and deepfake claims reflects the growing challenges posed by AI-altered media in verifying information, particularly in times of political uncertainty and international conflict. The situation underscores how quickly online speculation can spread, even in response to content explicitly intended to reassure the public.
