Israel Threatens More Strikes In Lebanon, Says IDF Will Continue Operations
Israel warns Lebanon as IDF vows continued military action.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reiterated that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will continue to operate with full freedom of action in southern Lebanon, stating that the military remains authorised to respond to any threat directed at Israeli troops or civilians living near the country's northern border. The remarks come amid ongoing discussions over security arrangements and regional stability along the Israel-Lebanon frontier.
Addressing the security situation, Netanyahu said the government's directives to the military have not changed and that Israeli forces retain the authority to act against both immediate and emerging threats. He stressed that protecting residents of northern Israel remains a top priority and that the military has the full support of the government in carrying out its operations.
"My directive and that of the Minister of Defence to the IDF is clear and has not changed," Netanyahu said. He added that troops deployed in southern Lebanon have complete operational freedom to prevent threats and ensure the safety of Israeli communities. According to the prime minister, there are no restrictions on the military's ability to take action when security concerns arise.
Netanyahu also confirmed that Israel intends to maintain its presence within the designated security zone in southern Lebanon. He said the deployment is aimed at preventing hostile activities and safeguarding communities located close to the Lebanese border. The prime minister emphasised that both the government and the broader Israeli public stand firmly behind the armed forces.
The comments come as regional stakeholders continue discussions regarding military arrangements along the border, including concerns surrounding the activities of Hezbollah and broader efforts to maintain stability in the area. Under existing understandings, military forces are expected to undergo a series of strategic withdrawals from several smaller positions located along the Yellow Line, the demarcation separating Israeli and Lebanese-controlled territory.
Netanyahu, alongside the Minister of Defence and the Chief of the General Staff, stated that the security of Israeli citizens and military personnel will remain the guiding principle behind all operational decisions. Israeli officials said the IDF will continue targeting militant infrastructure and neutralising threats while maintaining the security zone in southern Lebanon to protect the country's northern communities.
