Iran President Criticises US Economic Pressure, Predicts No Results
Iran president rejects US economic pressure as ineffective.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday rejected the impact of new US economic sanctions, asserting that Washington would not achieve its objectives through increased financial pressure on Tehran. His remarks came as tensions between Iran and the United States remain high and negotiations between the two countries have stalled.
Pezeshkian, according to Iran's ISNA news agency, said his government had prepared measures to respond to the latest economic pressure. He argued that the United States had failed to achieve its aims through military action and would similarly struggle to gain concessions through sanctions.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Monday outlined plans aimed at intensifying economic pressure on Iran, describing the campaign as "economic asphyxiation". Washington has also warned that countries that do not cooperate with the sanctions campaign could face serious consequences.

Iranian authorities have played down the likely impact of the new measures, pointing to the country's experience with extensive international sanctions over several decades. Pezeshkian maintained that Tehran's preferred approach remained dialogue and negotiations, while also stressing that Iran would continue resisting economic pressure.
The dispute has been further complicated by disagreements over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, where negotiations between the two sides have stalled. The waterway is a major global energy route, normally carrying about one-fifth of worldwide oil and liquefied natural gas exports, and disruptions have affected international energy markets.
Iran has maintained control over traffic through the strait since the war began on February 28 and has sought to impose fees on vessels using the waterway. The United States has demanded a return to the previous system of free navigation, while US President Donald Trump has maintained that Washington has control over the strategically important passage.
