Mark Zuckerberg Predicts Job Growth As AI Reshapes Workplaces

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has predicted that the global economy will continue to generate jobs even as artificial intelligence reshapes workplaces and potentially reduces the size of individual companies. In a 6,500-word manifesto titled “The Future is for Everyone: The Path to a Positive AI Future”, published on Meta’s website on August 10, Zuckerberg argued that the growth of AI should not automatically be equated with the disappearance of human employment.
Zuckerberg challenged the view that increasingly capable AI systems would eliminate most jobs and reduce the relevance of human workers. He argued that companies could become smaller as AI improves productivity without necessarily resulting in fewer jobs across the wider economy. According to his vision, the transformation could resemble earlier shifts in the structure of businesses, when large industrial companies gave way to smaller technology-driven firms.
The Meta chief also predicted that a relatively small number of people could eventually operate companies at significant scale with the assistance of advanced AI agents. He envisaged a future in which individuals could have access to highly capable AI systems that support decision-making, operations and other business functions. Zuckerberg argued that small businesses would remain an important part of the economy while gaining the ability to achieve a much larger impact through AI.

His comments come amid a wider debate among technology executives and researchers over the effect of advanced AI on employment. Some industry leaders have warned that increasingly capable systems could automate substantial portions of knowledge-based work, particularly tasks that are repetitive but require processing different sets of information. The discussion has raised questions about how businesses, workers and education systems will adapt as AI tools become more capable.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has been among those warning about significant disruption to entry-level white-collar employment. He has argued that jobs involving tasks such as document review, administration, consulting and some financial work could face increased automation because AI systems can handle repetitive tasks across varying examples. Amodei has also suggested that companies may have incentives to adopt AI to reduce costs and employ fewer workers.
Zuckerberg’s outlook presents a different interpretation of the same technological transition, focusing on the potential for AI to expand the capabilities of individuals and smaller businesses rather than simply replace workers. While the scale and timing of AI-driven changes to employment remain uncertain, the contrasting views from technology leaders reflect an ongoing debate over whether advanced AI will primarily eliminate existing roles, create new opportunities or significantly transform the way people work.
