Iran Not Afraid, Khamenei Not in Bunker: Consul General Declares

Iran's Mumbai-based diplomat denies the Supreme Leader is in hiding and affirms preparedness against threats and continued India cooperation.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Hosseini Khamenei is not hiding in a bunker and continues to carry out his official responsibilities despite heightened regional tensions and mounting pressure from the United States, Iran’s Consul General in Mumbai, Saeid Reza Mosayeb Motlagh, has said. He asserted that Iran is not afraid and is fully prepared to confront any form of aggression.

Speaking exclusively to NDTV on Saturday, Mr. Motlagh said that while additional security measures have been put in place for the Supreme Leader due to prevailing threats, Mr. Khamenei remains actively engaged in governance. The diplomat stressed that the Supreme Leader is holding all necessary meetings with senior officials and that the Iranian leadership is functioning without disruption.

Referring to internal unrest in Iran, the consul general alleged that recent protests were instigated by foreign intelligence agencies. He claimed these actions were aimed at destabilizing the country at a time when Iran is facing intense economic sanctions and growing external pressure. According to him, such developments are part of a broader strategy to weaken Iran politically and economically.

Mr. Motlagh also spoke about Iran’s relationship with India, saying both countries are making efforts to sustain bilateral cooperation despite the challenges posed by international sanctions. He emphasized that Tehran values its longstanding ties with New Delhi and that both sides are working to ensure continued engagement in areas of mutual interest.

The comments come amid renewed tensions between Washington and Tehran, with strong rhetoric and military posturing raising concerns of a wider confrontation. Iranian officials have repeatedly stated that while the country does not seek conflict, it will respond decisively if attacked, a position reiterated by the consul general as regional uncertainty continues to grow.
