Indian student killed in US car crash; family seeks fundraising support.
A 25-year-old Indian student from Andhra Pradesh has died in a road accident after another vehicle allegedly crashed into the car she was travelling in from behind. Prasanna Atluri, a recent graduate of Pace University’s Lubin School of Business, was reportedly on her way to a temple with friends when the fatal accident occurred on July 5.
According to her family, Atluri and her friends were waiting at a traffic signal when a speeding vehicle allegedly rammed into their car from behind. Atluri died in the crash, while another woman travelling with her was also killed. A third passenger sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
Atluri was from Moolapadu village in Ibrahimpatnam mandal of Andhra Pradesh’s NTR district. She came from a farming family, with her father, Atluri Vasantha Rao, reportedly working as a farmer and her mother running a small bag manufacturing unit. Atluri had recently completed her studies in the United States and was searching for employment opportunities.

Following the tragedy, Atluri’s cousin Ravi Kumar Atluri launched a fundraising campaign to help the family bring her remains back to India. He described Prasanna as the pillar of her family and someone relatives depended on for guidance, emotional support and financial stability. He said she continued to help others despite managing her own student loans.
The fundraising campaign has received significant support, collecting more than $40,000 towards a target of $75,000. The money is intended to cover funeral arrangements, transportation of Atluri’s remains to India, travel expenses for family members and repayment of her outstanding student loans. The family is seeking help to complete the necessary arrangements following her sudden death.
Atluri’s family has also appealed to authorities for assistance in completing formalities required to bring her body back to her native village for the final rites. The death of the recent graduate has left her family in Andhra Pradesh in shock, while efforts continue to repatriate her remains. Further details about the accident and the condition of the injured passenger are awaited.
