Indian-Origin Man Charged With Murder of Sex Offender In California
Varun Suresh accused of targeted stabbing in Fremont, citing vigilante motive online.
A 29-year-old Indian-origin man, Varun Suresh, faces murder charges for fatally stabbing 71-year-old David Brimmer, a registered sex offender, in Fremont, California, on September 18, 2025. The incident, described as a targeted attack, occurred in the 600 block of Upper Vintners Circle, with Suresh allegedly using California’s Megan’s Law website to locate Brimmer, who had served nine years in prison for a 1995 child sexual assault conviction, according to court documents.
Fremont police reported that Suresh, who had no prior personal connection to Brimmer, chased the victim into a neighbor’s home to continue the assault. Officers found Brimmer unresponsive with multiple stab wounds and pronounced him dead at the scene despite attempts at emergency care. A knife was recovered from Suresh, who was detained immediately. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has also charged Suresh with residential burglary and causing great bodily injury with a deadly weapon, emphasizing the premeditated nature of the attack.
Suresh allegedly told investigators he had long desired to kill a sex offender, stating, “They hurt children” and “deserve to die,” per court documents reported by CBS News. Screenshots of Brimmer’s Megan’s Law profile, taken 45 minutes before the incident, were found on Suresh’s phone. He expressed no remorse, reportedly describing the act as “honestly really fun” and hoping public sentiment against pedophiles would justify his actions.

This marks Fremont’s fifth homicide of 2025. Suresh, previously arrested in 2021 for a false bomb threat and criminal threats, remains in custody without bail at Santa Rita Jail as prosecutors review the case. Authorities have classified the incident as isolated, with no ongoing threat to the public, but it raises concerns about vigilante justice and the misuse of public registries.
