India Reinforces Ties with France: Jaishankar Meets President Macron

Jaishankar meets Macron, promoting India-France strategic and cultural ties.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Saturday met French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, conveying warm greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and underscoring the strong bilateral relationship between India and France.

In a post on X, Jaishankar said, "An honour to call on President Emmanuel Macron of France last night. Conveyed warm greetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Value the discussion and his many insights."

The meeting comes a month after President Macron’s official visit to India from February 17–19, which focused on strengthening the India-France strategic partnership, particularly in technology, innovation, and cultural diplomacy. During that visit, Macron inaugurated the India-France Year of Innovation 2026 in Mumbai and attended the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi.

During his Paris visit, Jaishankar also toured the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, praising its renovation and cultural significance. "Witnessed impressive expressions of the cultural and spiritual heritage of India. Confident that the renovated facility will serve as a hub in Paris for deepening interest in Indian art and culture," he said.

The centre, managed by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, features Indian art exhibits, including tree-of-life murals with elephants and peacocks and intricate miniature paintings symbolising spiritual heritage. It serves as a key diplomatic tool to foster Indo-French cultural ties, in line with commitments from Modi and Macron to expand cultural hubs in Europe.

Jaishankar arrived in France on March 27 to participate in the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting. During the summit, he highlighted the significance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor in enhancing trade connectivity and securing supply chains amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
