MMU Delegation Meets Iranian Ambassador, Calls for Diplomatic End to Conflict
Kashmir delegation meets Iran envoy, expresses solidarity and seeks peace.
A delegation of Muslim scholars from Jammu and Kashmir, led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, met the Iranian Ambassador to India on Friday to express solidarity with Iran and convey condolences over the deaths of senior leadership figures in the ongoing conflict. The delegation, representing the Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), held discussions with Ambassador Mohammad Fathali and other officials in the national capital.
According to a statement issued by the MMU, the delegation expressed grief over the “martyrdom” of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and others killed in the conflict. The group, which included prominent religious leaders such as Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam and Aga Syed Hassan Al-Mosvi, conveyed their support to the people of Iran during what they described as a period of “invasion and hardship.”
The delegation also voiced concern over the ongoing war involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, condemning the escalation and calling for urgent diplomatic intervention. They stressed the importance of restoring peace and stability in the region, expressing hope that dialogue would prevail over continued hostilities.

Highlighting historical ties, the scholars pointed to the deep cultural, religious, and historical connections between Kashmir and Iran, noting that Kashmir has often been referred to as “Iran-e-Sagheer” (Little Iran). They emphasised the need for unity and collective efforts within the global Muslim community to address current challenges.
Separately, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah addressed the issue in the Legislative Assembly, condemning what he termed an “unjust and illegal war” against Iran. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to use diplomatic channels to help bring an end to the conflict, stating that such efforts would serve the broader interests of humanity.
Abdullah’s remarks came amid debate within the Assembly, where some BJP legislators argued that the Iran conflict falls outside the House’s jurisdiction. Despite this, the Chief Minister reiterated his stance, expressing condolences for those killed and calling for peace, reflecting growing concern in the region over the escalating international crisis.
