India, Bangladesh Discuss Bilateral Cooperation, People-To-People Ties And Regional Issues

India's High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi held talks with Bangladesh's Advisor to the Prime Minister for the Ministry of Public Administration Ismail Zabihullah on Monday, with the two sides discussing a wide range of issues concerning bilateral relations. The meeting highlighted people-to-people ties as a key foundation of India-Bangladesh relations and focused on advancing cooperation through a forward-looking approach based on mutual trust and benefit.

The Indian High Commission in Dhaka noted that the discussions covered several areas of bilateral engagement, with both sides expressing optimism about continuing cooperation between the two sovereign countries. The meeting comes as India and Bangladesh seek to maintain engagement across multiple sectors, including trade, investment, connectivity, cultural exchanges and other areas of mutual interest.

Trivedi also held talks with Bangladesh's Minister of Cultural Affairs Nitai Roy Chowdhury on Sunday, focusing on strengthening cultural cooperation. The discussions covered potential collaboration and exchanges in classical music, folk art, heritage conservation, institutional linkages, joint cultural programmes and conferences, particularly as part of celebrations marking the 127th birth anniversary of Bangladeshi poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Nawaz Mahmud Khayyam was also present.

The Indian High Commissioner later met Bangladesh's Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo. The two sides reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation mechanisms covering wildlife conservation and habitat protection, while also discussing opportunities to strengthen cooperation on transboundary pollution, waste management and other environmental issues. State Minister Shaikh Faridul Islam was present during the meeting.

Trivedi has also been holding discussions with senior Bangladeshi leaders on strengthening institutional engagement. Last week, he met National Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad and Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal in Dhaka, with the discussions focused on parliamentary cooperation and exchanges between India and Bangladesh.

During the parliamentary meetings, the High Commissioner underlined the importance of engagement between the two legislatures in strengthening people-to-people connections between the two countries. The series of diplomatic engagements reflects efforts to sustain dialogue and expand cooperation across political, cultural, environmental and parliamentary spheres, with both sides emphasising closer ties and mutual benefit.
