India, Bangladesh Discuss Mutual Interests To Advance People-To-People Cooperation

India and Bangladesh on Monday discussed issues of mutual interest aimed at strengthening people-to-people cooperation and deepening bilateral ties. The discussions took place during a meeting between India's High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi and Adviser to Bangladesh's Prime Minister for the Ministry of Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir in Dhaka.

The Indian High Commission said the two sides discussed broad areas of mutual interest and mutual benefit. The discussions also focused on strengthening connections between businesses, professionals and people of both countries, with people-to-people ties described as an important foundation of India-Bangladesh relations.

The meeting followed Trivedi's August 25 discussions with Bangladesh's Minister of Commerce, Industries, Textiles and Jute Khandaker Abdul Muktadir. The two sides reviewed aspects of bilateral economic and commercial cooperation and explored avenues to further expand ties.

During the latest discussions, the Indian High Commissioner emphasised the role of businesses and the private sector in strengthening economic cooperation through mutually beneficial trade and investment. The talks come amid continued engagement between the two countries across several sectors, including commerce and regional cooperation.

India and Bangladesh have also maintained discussions on environmental cooperation. On August 24, Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav met Bangladesh's Environment Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo on the sidelines of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification's COP17 in Ulaanbaatar. Their discussions covered mangrove conservation, land erosion, transboundary monitoring of Bengal tigers in the Sundarbans and implementation of existing green initiatives.

The latest diplomatic engagement follows President Droupadi Murmu's August 21 congratulatory message to Bangladesh's President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. Murmu underlined the shared history, cultural ties and friendship between the two neighbours, while noting cooperation in areas including energy, technology, connectivity, youth affairs, health and education.
