"I Think It's Time!" Trump Says He Will Meet Putin Soon
Trump Pushes for Putin Meeting to End Ukraine War
US President Donald Trump announced plans for direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin to address the Russia-Ukraine conflict, following Putin’s absence from peace negotiations in Istanbul on Friday.
Speaking to reporters as he concluded a four-day Middle East visit, Trump said, “I think it’s time for us to just do it,” aiming to arrange the meeting “as soon as we can.” He expressed a personal urgency, noting he’d leave immediately but for his daughter Tiffany’s recent childbirth.
Trump was unsurprised by Putin’s decision to skip the Turkish talks, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy participated at Trump’s urging.

The Istanbul negotiations, the first direct talks in three years, involve Ukraine’s Defence Minister Rustem Umerov and Russia’s Vladimir Medinsky but are expected to yield little progress in halting the over three-year war. Trump emphasized the urgency, citing 5,000 weekly deaths and stating, “We’re going to get it done.”
Zelenskyy accepted a US-proposed 30-day ceasefire, but Russia, continuing strikes in Ukraine, has not agreed. Trump reiterated Thursday that a Trump-Putin meeting is critical to breaking the deadlock, saying, “Nothing’s going to happen until he and I get together.” Despite the stalled talks, Trump remains optimistic, driven by the need to curb the escalating human toll.
