Hyderabad Deports Nigerian Man Over Suspected Drug Links, Illegal Stay Since 2012

Hyderabad authorities remove suspect linked to drug networks.

Authorities in Hyderabad deported a 43-year-old Nigerian national, Johnkennedy Chukwuemeka Okoro, after he illegally resided in India for over a decade. The operation was conducted by the Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) in coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). Okoro, who used aliases including “Hopy Cup” and “Jeksa,” entered India on a business visa in Mumbai in 2012 but failed to depart after its expiration.

Following intelligence inputs, H-NEW apprehended Okoro within the jurisdiction of Asif Nagar Police Station. Although no controlled substances were recovered during the arrest, officials confirmed his prolonged unlawful presence and suspected involvement in narcotics trafficking. Police stated that such individuals often exploit expired visas to engage in illicit activities for financial gain.

The deportation process involved verification of identity and procurement of travel documents through collaboration between H-NEW and FRRO. Officials described the action as necessary to prevent threats to public safety and national security. Okoro has been repatriated to Imo State, Nigeria.

This case forms part of H-NEW’s ongoing enforcement drive targeting foreign nationals who overstay and participate in drug distribution networks. Since its establishment, the unit has deported at least 22 individuals for visa violations and related offenses, with a notable increase in such actions this year.

The agency urged citizens to report information on drug-related activities or illegal residents via the dedicated hotline: 8712661601. Authorities also advised parents to remain vigilant regarding their children’s associations to prevent exposure to substance abuse.
