How is UAE Stopping Hundreds of Iranian Missiles and Drones From Reaching its Skies?

The UAE released interception footage as Iranian drone and missile attacks killed four people.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) released footage on Sunday showing its air defences intercepting and destroying Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) amid escalating regional tensions. A 40-second black-and-white video from the Ministry of Defence depicted the interception of Iranian UAVs, highlighting the country’s response capabilities. On the day, UAE air defences detected 17 ballistic missiles, of which 16 were destroyed while one fell into the sea, alongside 117 UAVs, with 113 neutralised and four landing within the country.

Since the onset of Iranian attacks, UAE forces have detected a total of 238 ballistic missiles, destroying 221 while 15 fell into the sea and two landed within the country’s territory. The Ministry reported that out of 1,422 Iranian UAVs detected to date, 1,342 were successfully intercepted, with 80 UAVs reaching UAE territory. In addition, eight cruise missiles were detected and destroyed, showcasing the breadth of the UAE’s air defence operations.

Authorities confirmed that the attacks have resulted in four deaths among foreign nationals from Pakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh. A further 112 people sustained minor to moderate injuries, including nationals from the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Bahrain, the Comoros, and Turkey. Emergency response teams have been deployed to ensure medical aid and public safety.

In response to the heightened threat, the UAE government issued warnings against unauthorised photography or videography of incident sites, prohibited areas, and airport interiors. The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi urged Indian nationals to comply strictly with these directives to avoid legal consequences, emphasizing the importance of staying indoors and following official alerts during ongoing security operations.

The Embassy further advised Indian citizens not to share images or videos of affected areas on social media and to immediately report any suspicious objects or falling debris to authorities. These measures aim to prevent civilian exposure to risks and to facilitate safe handling of hazardous materials or unexploded projectiles. Compliance with these protocols is critical for public safety amid continuing missile and UAV threats.

The UAE’s public release of the video underscores its commitment to demonstrating operational readiness against regional threats and reassuring both residents and international observers of its robust air defence capabilities. The ongoing vigilance by UAE authorities aims to protect civilians, maintain national security, and manage the fallout from repeated missile and UAV incursions in the region.
