Giorgia Meloni Says “Parishram Hi Safalta Ki Kunji Hai” During PM Modi Visit
Meloni quotes Hindi proverb praising India-Italy relations during Modi visit.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted strengthening bilateral ties during a joint press statement in Rome, where Meloni also drew attention for using a Hindi phrase to describe the spirit of cooperation between the two countries.
During the interaction, Meloni referred to the Hindi word “parishram,” explaining it as hard work and continuous commitment. She said, “There is an Indian word which states that very well, which is ‘parishram’… ‘Parishram hi safalta ki kunji hai’,” adding her own translation that hard work is the key to success. She noted that the phrase reflects the shared approach both countries are taking in building long-term relations.
Meloni further stated that Modi’s visit had opened a “fresh chapter” in India-Italy relations, expressing confidence that both sides would continue to deepen cooperation going forward. The comments came during discussions aimed at expanding diplomatic, economic, and strategic engagement between New Delhi and Rome, as part of broader efforts to strengthen ties between India and Europe.

Giorgia Meloni received Narendra Modi in Rome after his arrival on Tuesday night, which marked the final stop of a five-nation tour. Modi was accorded a ceremonial military honour upon arrival before holding talks with the Italian leadership, underscoring the formal diplomatic importance of the visit.
The visit also included a lighter moment when Modi presented a packet of Parle Melody toffee to Meloni, referencing the popular “Melodi” nickname coined by social media users for the two leaders. Meloni later shared a video of the exchange on social media, thanking Modi for the gift and laughing alongside him as they acknowledged the running internet trend.
The “Melodi” meme has grown from candid interactions between the two leaders at international summits into a widely circulated online phenomenon, especially after their appearances at multilateral events. Meloni herself had previously referenced it in a 2025 post, further amplifying the lighthearted portrayal of their diplomatic rapport alongside formal discussions on international cooperation.
