#JUSTIN: Explosions Reported In Bandar Abbas, Qeshm And Sirik Amid Ongoing Iran Strikes

Fresh blasts hit key Iranian cities amid conflict.

The United States launched a fresh wave of military strikes on Iran early Monday, with explosions reported in the southern Iranian cities of Bandar Abbas and Sirik, as well as on Qeshm Island. The latest operation comes amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran over security in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic maritime corridor through which nearly one-fifth of the world's oil supply passes. The renewed strikes mark another escalation in the conflict, with the United States saying its objective is to protect international commercial shipping operating through the region.

In a statement posted on X, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces targeted sites linked to Iran's ability to threaten civilian mariners and commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. According to CENTCOM, the strikes were intended to further degrade Iran's operational capabilities after a series of incidents involving commercial shipping in the waterway. The command added that the operation was carried out under the direction of the US President, stating that the strikes were aimed at holding Iranian forces accountable for actions affecting maritime security.

Explosions were reported across Bandar Abbas, Iran's principal port on the Persian Gulf, as well as on nearby Qeshm Island and in the coastal town of Sirik. Videos circulating on social media appeared to show bright flashes lighting up the night sky and explosions near coastal areas. However, the authenticity of the footage and the extent of the damage could not be independently verified. Among the widely shared clips was a video published by Russian state-affiliated broadcaster RT, which claimed the latest round of strikes was larger than previous operations and remained ongoing at the time of reporting.

Monday's strikes are the latest in a series of US military operations targeting Iranian military and coastal infrastructure. According to the US military, the campaign has focused on reducing Iran's ability to disrupt commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most strategically important maritime chokepoints. The waterway serves as a critical route for global energy exports, and any disruption to shipping has the potential to affect international oil markets and global trade. Concerns over the security of the strait have already contributed to higher crude oil prices and increased volatility in financial markets.

Iran had not immediately released an official assessment of the reported strikes or confirmed the extent of any casualties or damage. Likewise, independent agencies had not verified claims made by either side regarding the outcome of the operation. As in previous exchanges, information emerging from the conflict remains difficult to independently confirm due to limited access to affected areas and the fast-moving nature of military developments.

The latest escalation underscores the increasingly volatile security situation in the Gulf region, where repeated military exchanges have heightened fears of a broader confrontation. Governments and global markets are closely monitoring developments, particularly any impact on maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. With tensions showing little sign of easing, further military activity and diplomatic responses are expected in the coming days as the international community watches for the next phase of the crisis.
