Four Pakistani Soldiers Killed In Karachi Terror Attack After Intense 90-Minute Gun Battle

A coordinated terrorist attack on a Pakistan Rangers compound in Karachi on Saturday night left four security personnel dead and triggered a 90-minute gun battle between militants and security forces. The assault began at around 8:30 pm when an explosives-laden vehicle rammed into the Sindh Rangers facility, creating a breach that allowed heavily armed attackers to storm the compound. The incident unfolded in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of Karachi and prompted a large-scale security operation, with authorities sealing off the surrounding neighbourhood and urging residents to remain indoors.

According to security officials, the attackers entered the Rangers compound immediately after the powerful explosion and began firing indiscriminately while hurling hand grenades at security personnel. Rangers stationed at the facility responded swiftly, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire. Preliminary information cited by Pakistan's security agencies and reported by PTI indicated that the attackers were affiliated with Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a militant faction linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Officials said the operation was aimed at preventing the militants from causing further casualties or escaping the premises.

Emergency services also responded rapidly to the attack. Rescue 1122 Sindh said it received reports of an explosion near Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 5 shortly after the blast and immediately dispatched rescue teams from its central command and control centre. Ambulances, firefighters and emergency responders were deployed to the scene as security forces worked to secure the area. The blast and subsequent gunfire caused panic among nearby residents, while power outages were reported in parts of the surrounding neighbourhood during the security operation.

Authorities cordoned off the Rangers compound and adjoining roads as the gun battle continued for approximately 90 minutes. Residents were instructed to remain inside their homes while security personnel carried out clearance operations to ensure that no additional attackers were present. The prolonged exchange of fire underscored the scale and complexity of the assault, with security forces working to neutralise the threat while protecting civilians in the densely populated urban area. Officials have not ruled out the possibility that the attackers had conducted reconnaissance before launching the coordinated strike.

The attack has once again highlighted Pakistan's continuing security challenges posed by militant groups, particularly those targeting law enforcement and military installations. While investigations are underway to establish the planning, logistics and support network behind the assault, security agencies have intensified searches for any accomplices linked to the attackers. The latest incident is expected to renew concerns over militant activity in Pakistan, with authorities vowing to strengthen security measures and continue operations against extremist organisations responsible for attacks on security personnel and public institutions.
