Four Gurugram Police Personnel Suspended After Car Hits MLA Convoy Pilot Vehicle
Four Gurugram policemen suspended after ramming VIP pilot vehicle.
Four members of the Gurugram police force, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector, were placed under immediate suspension on Thursday following a serious traffic incident on New Year's Eve that endangered public safety and disrupted a VIP convoy. The accident took place near Sector 4/7 Chowk when the personal vehicle driven by ASI Baljit Singh collided at high speed with a Scorpio pilot car that was escorting local MLA Mukesh Sharma’s convoy from the railway station. The driver of the pilot vehicle sustained injuries in the impact, and the entire episode has raised serious questions about discipline and conduct within the force.
According to the detailed complaint lodged by Sub-Inspector Ramesh Kumar, the incident unfolded while his team was manning a checkpoint near Inox Mall on the night of December 31. ASI Baljit Singh arrived at the location in his private car, picked up Special Police Officer Ajay Pal, who was on duty at the checkpoint, and proceeded to a nearby mall. Shortly afterward, the ASI returned and collected two more officers — head constables Sanjay Kumar and Hansraj — who were also stationed at the same checkpoint, before driving off together.
The complaint further states that ASI Baljit Singh then drove at excessive speed and executed a dangerous U-turn at Sector 4/7 Chowk, directly striking the oncoming pilot vehicle that formed part of the MLA’s security escort. The collision caused significant damage to the Scorpio and left the pilot driver injured. Police noted an additional irregularity: the ASI’s car was found to be missing its number plates at the time of the incident, which has added to suspicions of deliberate concealment.

A formal FIR has been registered against ASI Baljit Singh at New Colony Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act, with allegations that he was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The car involved has been seized for forensic examination, and a departmental inquiry has been launched against all four implicated officers to determine the full extent of their misconduct and any breach of duty while on active assignment.
The suspended personnel are ASI Baljit Singh, SPO Ajay Pal, and head constables Sanjay Kumar and Hansraj. Gurugram police have confirmed that the investigation remains active, with efforts focused on establishing the precise sequence of events, verifying the intoxication claim, and assessing whether additional officers at the checkpoint failed to intervene. The case has drawn attention to the need for stricter oversight of off-duty behavior and adherence to traffic regulations among law enforcement personnel.
