Coordinated Terror Attacks Kill Four Police in Pakistan

Militants target police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing four.

A wave of terrorist attacks rocked Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, leaving four police personnel dead and nine injured, officials reported Thursday. The assaults, which occurred Wednesday, targeted police stations and checkpoints across multiple districts.

In Peshawar, a constable was killed and another wounded while repelling attacks on the Hassan Khel police station and two nearby check posts. In Upper Dir, a brutal ambush on a Quick Response Force vehicle claimed three policemen’s lives and injured eight others, who were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital. A search operation is underway to track the attackers.

Militants also struck a joint Frontier Corps–police checkpoint at Sakhi Pul in Khyber district, but a fierce counter-response drove them back. In Nasir Bagh and Mattani, police successfully foiled similar attacks with no losses. In Bannu, the Mazangha check post under Hovid Police Station came under fire, but no casualties were reported.

Early Thursday, Charsadda’s Tarlandi check-post under Nasta Police Station was targeted with a hand grenade by motorcycle-borne assailants. Fortunately, the attack caused no harm.

Security has been ramped up across the province, with police and checkpoints on high alert to prevent further violence. Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur condemned the attacks as “cowardly,” vowing they would not break the police’s resolve.
