#BreakingNews: Explosion Near US Embassy in Oslo Causes Minor Damage

An explosion near the US Embassy in Oslo causes damage as police begin an investigation.

A loud explosion struck the United States Embassy in Oslo early Sunday, causing minor structural damage but no reported injuries, according to Norwegian police. The blast occurred at the entrance to the consular section of the embassy compound in western Oslo. Authorities said the incident took place at around 1 a.m. local time, startling nearby residents. Emergency services quickly responded to the scene to assess the situation and secure the area. Initial reports indicated that while damage was limited, the explosion created panic among people in the vicinity.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud blast followed by thick smoke rising from the embassy premises. Sebastian Toerstad, an 18-year-old student who happened to be driving near the area at the time, described seeing heavy smoke covering the street. According to him, the entrance area of the embassy appeared to have suffered visible damage from the explosion. Images from the scene later showed smoke lingering around the compound. The sudden incident prompted immediate security responses from local authorities.

Police officials from the Oslo Police District confirmed that the explosion occurred near the consular entrance of the embassy complex. Officers quickly cordoned off the area and began examining the site for possible evidence. Two police technicians wearing protective white overalls were seen working around the damaged section. Authorities carried out a preliminary inspection to determine the source and nature of the blast.

Investigators also launched a wider search operation in the surrounding area shortly after the explosion. Police deployed sniffer dogs, drones, and a helicopter to look for potential suspects or additional threats. Officials said these measures were necessary to ensure the safety of residents and diplomatic staff. Security personnel carefully examined nearby streets and buildings as part of the operation.

Authorities later stated that no additional explosive devices had been discovered in the vicinity. Police also confirmed that there were no immediate reports of injuries among embassy personnel or members of the public. Despite the limited damage, the explosion has raised concerns about the security of diplomatic missions in the region. Officials are continuing their investigation to determine who may be responsible for the attack.

The incident has drawn attention due to the sensitive nature of diplomatic facilities and their importance in international relations. Embassies often maintain high security due to the potential risks associated with geopolitical tensions. Norwegian authorities have assured the public that the situation is under control and that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
