Apple CEO Tim Cook Pledges Continued Advocacy on Immigration, Discusses AI and Succession

Tim Cook pledges immigration advocacy, supports DACA workers, and eyes AI opportunities and succession.

Apple Inc. Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook addressed employees on immigration, artificial intelligence, and leadership succession during a company-wide meeting, expressing strong concern over the current US immigration approach and reaffirming Apple’s commitment to supporting its global workforce. The remarks were reported by Bloomberg News.

Cook said he was “deeply distraught” by recent immigration-related developments in the United States, noting that some employees have expressed fear about leaving their homes. He emphasized that no one should feel unsafe and highlighted the importance of immigration to Apple, which employs team members across the country on various types of visas. Cook reiterated his long-standing belief that the company’s success is rooted in its ability to attract talent from around the world.

The Apple CEO pledged to continue lobbying lawmakers on immigration issues and voiced strong support for employees covered under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. He said Apple employs hundreds of DACA recipients and is personally committed to advocating on their behalf, calling himself a “huge believer” in the program. Cook also stressed that every individual deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background.

The discussion followed a memo Cook released last week after deadly incidents involving federal agents in Minneapolis, which drew internal criticism from some employees who felt the response was limited. Cook said he had discussed the situation with US President Donald Trump and called for de-escalation, reiterating his stance during the meeting.

Beyond immigration, Cook spoke about Apple’s artificial intelligence strategy, describing AI as one of the most profound opportunities of a lifetime. He said future Apple devices and services would increasingly leverage AI in meaningful ways, adding that the company is well positioned to compete as new AI-driven product categories emerge.

Cook also briefly addressed executive succession, noting that leadership transitions announced in recent months were planned and expected. He said long-term succession planning is a core leadership responsibility, as Apple prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary and continues expanding in emerging markets such as India and Malaysia.
