Amit Shah Chairs Review, Unveils Security Plan For Rajasthan Border Districts

Amit Shah unveils security plan targeting infiltration and crime in border districts.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has unveiled a comprehensive “360-degree security plan” aimed at strengthening security along Rajasthan’s border districts adjoining Pakistan. The high-level strategy focuses on countering infiltration, drug trafficking, cybercrime, and other cross-border illegal activities through coordinated action by central and state agencies.

The review meeting, chaired by Shah in Bikaner on Tuesday, brought together senior officials from multiple agencies including the Border Security Force (BSF), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Rajasthan Police, and district administration representatives. District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police from five border districts also participated in the discussions on improving surveillance and operational coordination.

A key feature of the plan is a strict “zero tolerance” policy against illegal construction within 15 kilometres of the India-Pakistan border. Officials have been directed to identify and demolish unauthorized structures that may pose potential security risks. The move is aimed at preventing misuse of sensitive border areas for infiltration support or illicit activities.

The Home Minister also emphasized intensified action against narcotics smuggling and infiltration attempts, instructing agencies to strengthen joint border management mechanisms. Enhanced coordination between the BSF and state police has been highlighted as a priority to improve intelligence sharing, real-time monitoring, and rapid response capabilities along vulnerable stretches of the border.

In addition to physical security measures, the plan also focuses on financial and cyber threats. District administrations have been granted expanded powers to act against shell companies, suspicious transactions, mule accounts, fake Aadhaar identities, and cyber fraud networks operating in sensitive areas. Authorities were also urged to make better use of the national cybercrime helpline 1930 for quicker reporting and response.

Officials noted that similar enforcement models had previously been implemented in Bihar’s Seemanchal region, leading to large-scale action against illegal constructions. With the new strategy, Rajasthan’s border districts are expected to see intensified surveillance, stricter enforcement, and closer coordination between multiple agencies to strengthen national security along the western frontier.
