Ghaziabad police kill child murder accused in encounter after firing.
A 55-year-old man wanted for the rape and murder of his four-year-old niece was killed in a police encounter in Ghaziabad district late on Sunday night, authorities said on Monday. The accused, identified as Jeeshan, was shot dead during a joint operation by the local police and the Crime Branch after he allegedly opened fire on officers in an attempt to evade arrest. The encounter took place near the Banthla canal in the Loni area following a specific tip-off about his location. Two police personnel, Head Constables Amit and Iqbal, sustained injuries in the exchange of fire but are reported to be out of danger.
According to police accounts, the crime occurred on April 11 when Jeeshan lured the young girl from outside her home in the Shalimar Garden police station area on the pretext of buying her toffees. He allegedly took her to his room, where he raped and then strangled her to death. The accused reportedly carried the child's body on his shoulders and dumped it under a car parked on an 80-foot road in the same locality before fleeing the scene.
Jeeshan, who carried a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, was later spotted on CCTV footage at Delhi railway station two days ago while attempting to escape the region. Acting on intelligence that he was scheduled to meet an associate near the Banthla canal, a team from the Teela Morh police station cordoned off the area and began checking vehicles and individuals.

When officers signalled him to stop, Jeeshan tried to flee but found himself surrounded. He allegedly opened fire on the police team, prompting them to retaliate in self-defence. The accused sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
ACP Shalimar Garden Atul Kumar Singh confirmed that the accused was killed in retaliatory firing. Police have recovered weapons and cartridges from his possession, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination. The incident has brought closure to a horrific case that shocked the local community in Ghaziabad.
