Visakhapatnam: 17 Detained After Student Groups Clash With Sticks on Road
Police detain 17 after student groups clash with sticks in Visakhapatnam.
Tension prevailed on the Marikavalasa-Thimmapuram Master Plan Road in Visakhapatnam after around 20 young people allegedly clashed following a dispute between two students near Chandrampalem School on Thursday. What initially began as an argument reportedly escalated after the youths split into two groups and confronted each other with sticks. Police intervened after the confrontation turned violent, with four people reportedly attacked during the clash.
According to police, some of the youths involved were suspected of having consumed alcohol before the incident. The situation reportedly became tense again later in the evening when some of those involved allegedly attempted to confront each other at Shivashakti Nagar on Thimmapuram Road. Police teams rushed to the location after receiving information about the renewed confrontation, but the young people reportedly fled after noticing the arrival of officers.
Police subsequently launched efforts to identify and trace those involved in the violence. Officers detained 17 of the approximately 20 people identified in connection with the incident. Police said a case has been registered against six youths, including three adults and three minors. Authorities are now examining the specific role played by each person involved in the confrontation and are investigating whether others may have participated in the violence.

Circle Inspector Balakrishna said police are examining CCTV footage, statements from those involved and other available evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events. Six cases have been registered in connection with the incident. Investigators are also checking whether alcohol or drug consumption contributed to the escalation of the dispute and whether additional people were involved in the clashes.
The incident has raised concerns over the manner in which a dispute involving young people escalated into a physical confrontation in a public area. Police have warned those involved that strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible for violence or attempts to disturb public order. Authorities have also urged youngsters to avoid taking the law into their own hands and to seek police intervention instead of attempting to settle personal disputes through violence.
The investigation remains underway as police continue to verify the circumstances surrounding the clash and determine the individual responsibility of those detained. The authorities are also assessing the evidence collected from the area and reviewing the allegations made in connection with the confrontation. Police have reiterated that further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, particularly if evidence establishes the involvement of additional people or any other offences.
