Delhi Traffic Police Order Commuters to Avoid Delhi-Dehradun Expressway
Delhi Traffic Police advise alternate routes after expressway closure near Akshardham.
The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory after temporary closure or restrictions were imposed on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, urging commuters to use alternate routes to avoid inconvenience and traffic congestion. The advisory was issued on August 20 for vehicles approaching the expressway from the Vikas Marg and Akshardham sides. Traffic personnel were deployed at key points to manage vehicle movement and divert traffic wherever necessary.
According to the traffic advisory, commuters travelling towards the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway from Vikas Marg and Akshardham were asked to avoid the affected stretch for some time. Authorities said the temporary restriction could lead to congestion on connecting roads, particularly during busy hours. Commuters were advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow additional travel time.
The Delhi Traffic Police said the measure was intended to prevent further disruption and maintain smoother traffic movement in the surrounding areas. Officials have been monitoring the situation and managing traffic at important junctions. Commuters have also been asked to cooperate with traffic personnel deployed along the affected routes.

The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is an important road link connecting the national capital with parts of western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The route provides a faster connection between Delhi and Dehradun and carries significant traffic between the regions. Any temporary restriction on the expressway can therefore have an impact on nearby roads and alternative routes.
Commuters approaching the expressway from Vikas Marg and Akshardham have been advised to check prevailing traffic conditions before beginning their journey. Those travelling during peak hours may need to account for additional delays because diverted vehicles could increase pressure on connecting roads. Authorities have urged motorists to follow directions issued by traffic personnel at the affected locations.
The traffic advisory comes as authorities continue efforts to manage road movement and reduce congestion caused by the temporary restriction. Commuters are expected to follow the alternate-route guidance until normal movement is restored. Further updates from the traffic authorities will determine when restrictions on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway are lifted and regular traffic movement resumes.
