UP Police Neutralise Murder Accused in Budhana Encounter After He Opens Fire

Amjad killed in police encounter; two officers injured.

A 36-year-old fugitive carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000 was shot dead in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Police in the Budhana area early Thursday morning, officials said. The accused, identified as Amjad, was wanted in multiple cases of murder and loot across several states and had been evading arrest for a prolonged period.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar, the encounter took place during a routine vehicle checking drive conducted by a police team. Officers attempted to stop a motorcycle for inspection when the rider allegedly tried to flee and opened fire at the personnel. The police team retaliated, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Amjad sustained serious injuries during the encounter and was later declared dead.

Police described Amjad as a history-sheeter with a long criminal record. He was allegedly involved in around 40 criminal cases, including charges of murder and armed robbery. Cases against him had been registered in Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, and multiple districts in western Uttar Pradesh, such as Muzaffarnagar, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Meerut. Authorities said he had been under surveillance and that the reward had been announced to facilitate his arrest.
