Anish Bhanwala Secures Bronze in 25m Rapid-Fire as India Tops Medal Tally

World Championship silver medallist Anish Bhanwala secured a bronze medal in the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol event at the Asian Shooting Championship on Wednesday, marking his third medal at the continental meet. His podium finish came on a day when Kazakhstan dominated proceedings with four gold medals across events. Bhanwala qualified for the final in seventh place with a score of 574, while compatriot Adarsh Singh also made the cut in eighth with 573. Kazakhstan’s Nikita Chiryukin topped qualification with 582.

In the eight-series final, featuring five rapid-fire shots per series, Japan’s Dai Yoshioka and Chiryukin surged ahead in the closing stages. Bhanwala, who was tied for the lead after six series with 21 hits, managed two hits in the seventh series to settle for bronze with a total of 23. Yoshioka clinched gold with a world and Asian record score of 31, while Chiryukin took silver with 28.

India, however, continued to lead the overall medal standings with an impressive tally of 41 gold, 19 silver and 15 bronze medals, with two days of competition remaining. Adriyan Karmakar added to the gold haul by winning the junior men’s 50m rifle prone event with a score of 621.7, ahead of Kazakhstan’s Oleg Noskov and Tamerlan Kabulov. The Indian junior men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol team also claimed gold.

In the senior 50m rifle prone event, Kazakhstan’s Islam Satpayev stood out by winning individual gold with 622.5 and helping his team secure top honours. India’s Babu Singh Panwar won bronze individually with 621.3 and contributed to a team silver alongside Samarvir Singh and Sartaj Singh Tiwana.

The junior men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol final saw Indonesia’s Muhamad Fawwaz Aditia Farrel win gold with a world and Asian junior record score of 29. India’s Suraj Sharma and Mukesh Nelavalli claimed silver and bronze, respectively, while also combining with Sahil Choudhary to secure team gold, underlining India’s strong overall performance at the championship.
