Tragedy in Muzaffarnagar: Woman Allegedly Killed Over Dowry
Woman brutally killed over dowry demands
A 28-year-old woman, Shama, was allegedly beaten to death by her in-laws over dowry demands in Phulat village, Muzaffarnagar, police reported on Sunday. The horrific incident, rooted in persistent harassment, has sparked outrage and renewed focus on dowry-related violence in Uttar Pradesh.
Ratanpuri Police Station SHO Tej Singh stated that a case has been filed against five individuals, including Shama’s husband, Anas, who remains absconding. “The body has been sent for post-mortem, and an investigation is underway,” Singh confirmed.
Shama’s brother, Shahvez, lodged a complaint alleging that Anas and his family demanded Rs 5 lakh as dowry since Shama’s marriage two years ago. Despite her family paying Rs 1 lakh, the harassment persisted, culminating in her brutal death on Saturday.
This case echoes a disturbing pattern in the region, with multiple dowry-related deaths reported in recent years, highlighting the urgent need for societal and legal reforms.
