Notorious Gangster Neutralized in Muzaffarnagar Shootout

UP STF eliminates sharpshooter in high-stakes encounter

Shahrukh Pathan, a notorious sharpshooter linked to the Sanjeev Jeeva gang and the late mafia don Mukhtar Ansari, was killed in a dramatic encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in Muzaffarnagar on Monday. The operation, led by the Meerut STF unit, unfolded in the Chhapar police station area when Pathan opened fire, discharging over 10 rounds at the police. In retaliatory firing, Pathan was critically injured, arrested, and later declared dead at a hospital, according to Additional Director General of Police (STF/Law and Order) Amitabh Yash.

Pathan, a resident of Khalapar, Muzaffarnagar, faced over a dozen charges, including murder, extortion, and violations of the Gangster and Arms Acts across Muzaffarnagar, Sambhal, and Haridwar. The STF recovered a .30 bore Beretta pistol, a .32 bore revolver, a 9 mm country-made pistol, 63 live cartridges, six empty shells, and a white Brezza car without a number plate. Pathan’s criminal history included the 2015 murder of Asif Jayda at Muzaffarnagar railway station while in custody and subsequent attacks on witnesses after his release on bail six months ago.

This encounter, part of the STF’s ‘Operation Langda,’ marks a significant blow to organized crime in the region. Sanjeev Jeeva, Pathan’s former associate, was killed in a Lucknow courtroom shooting two years ago.
