Three Killed In Chhattisgarh Mining Dispute After SUV And Truck Clash
Mining dispute escalates into violent clash, killing three in Chhattisgarh.
Three people were killed in a violent attack allegedly linked to a long-standing sand mining dispute in Chhattisgarh’s Korea district, after an SUV carrying members of one family was ambushed, rammed, and set on fire on Tuesday night in Katgodi village. Police said the incident appears to stem from rivalry between two local groups involved in mining operations.
According to preliminary investigations, the victims were travelling in two vehicles when they were intercepted by members of a rival group following an earlier phone conversation. Officials said the confrontation escalated quickly, with one of the vehicles—an SUV—being repeatedly struck by a truck, leaving it severely damaged and trapping occupants inside.
Police suspect that members of the Tripathi family carried out the attack on individuals from the Singh family, with whom they have had a prolonged dispute over sand mining rights in the area. The impact of the collision reportedly jammed the SUV’s doors, preventing those inside from escaping as the situation worsened.

Eyewitness accounts and initial reports suggest that the SUV was subsequently set ablaze after being surrounded, with claims that fuel may have been poured on the vehicle before it caught fire. However, investigators have not confirmed the exact cause of the blaze, and forensic teams are examining whether the fire was deliberate or triggered by the violent collision, including damage caused when the vehicle struck an electricity pole.
During the chaos, passengers allegedly attempted to break windows and escape but were assaulted by attackers, according to police statements. One of the deceased has been identified as Bharat Singh, who died after being trapped inside the burning vehicle along with two others.
Police have arrested four members of the Tripathi family in connection with the incident, while search operations are underway to trace additional suspects. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the role of organised rivalry in the violence and the sequence of events that led to the fatal confrontation.
