Karnataka Farmer Hits Official With Slipper In Bagalkot Over Compensation Dispute

A farmer in Karnataka’s Bagalkot district allegedly assaulted a Town Development Authority official with a slipper over delays and grievances related to compensation disbursement, officials said on Saturday. The incident took place inside the authority’s office and has raised concerns about administrative delays and tensions between citizens and local government staff.

According to reports, the farmer, identified as Basappa, had been waiting for compensation after being displaced due to official processes linked to land or development-related matters. Frustrated over repeated delays and what he described as unequal treatment, he confronted a first-division employee at the office, leading to a heated exchange between the two.

Officials said the argument escalated quickly after Basappa reportedly lost his temper during discussions about his pending compensation case. The verbal altercation soon turned physical, with both the farmer and the employee reportedly grabbing each other by the shirt amid rising tensions inside the office premises.

The situation intensified further when the farmer allegedly struck the official, identified as Ankad, with a slipper during the confrontation. The incident created a commotion within the Town Development Authority office, prompting other staff members present at the scene to intervene and separate the individuals involved.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether a formal complaint has been filed or whether disciplinary or legal action will follow. However, the episode highlights ongoing concerns about delays in compensation processing and the growing frustration among affected citizens dealing with administrative bottlenecks in government offices.
