Telangana Man Steals Bus, Injures Rider in Reckless High-Speed Chase

Telangana man arrested after stealing RTC bus, injuring motorcyclist.

A man allegedly stole a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus from the Korutla Bus Stand in Jagtial district, triggering a high-speed police chase that ended with his arrest. During the incident, the suspect reportedly drove the bus recklessly towards Nizamabad, injuring a motorcyclist and damaging several vehicles before police managed to stop him. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the theft.

According to police, the bus had been parked at the Korutla Bus Stand ahead of its scheduled departure when the incident occurred. The driver, Praveen, had briefly stepped away with colleagues for tea, leaving the vehicle unattended for a few minutes. Initially believing that a mechanic had moved the bus, he soon realised an unknown individual had driven away with it and immediately alerted the police while pursuing the vehicle.

The stolen bus allegedly struck a motorcyclist near the Ashtalakshmi Temple, leaving the rider seriously injured. The accused continued driving at high speed and reportedly rammed a police patrol vehicle near the Aarambh Bridge before colliding with several other vehicles along the route. The reckless driving caused panic among motorists and disrupted traffic as police teams intensified their pursuit.

The chase ended near the Hanuman Temple after the bus veered off the road and became stuck in a roadside ditch. The suspect abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by police officers. Authorities took him into custody without further incident and shifted him to the Metpally Police Station for questioning.

The bus driver confirmed that there were no passengers on board at the time of the theft, preventing what could have been a far more serious incident. He said the bus had been parked for only a short period and still had around 10 minutes before its scheduled departure when he and his colleagues stepped out for tea.

Police have registered a case and begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Officials are working to verify the identity of the accused and are also examining whether he may have been suffering from any mental health issues at the time of the alleged offence. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
