Jharkhand Police have arrested seven people in connection with the murder of Giridih Sub-Registrar Baleshwar Patel in Ramgarh district, following a violent attack allegedly linked to a long-standing land dispute. Officials confirmed on Wednesday that weapons and materials used in the assault, including a blood-stained brick and a bamboo stick, have been recovered as part of the investigation.
The incident took place in Balsagara village under Mandu police station limits, where Patel was allegedly attacked on Tuesday morning during a dispute over approximately 11 decimals of land. According to police, the official sustained severe injuries in the assault and was immediately taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Senior police officials said the case was registered based on a complaint filed by the victim’s wife, Rita Devi. Following the complaint, authorities constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. The SIT began coordinated raids using technical surveillance, video footage analysis, witness statements, and local intelligence inputs to track down the accused.

Ramgarh Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Lunayat said the investigation led to the arrest of seven individuals. The accused have been sent to judicial custody as the probe continues. Police also confirmed the recovery of alleged weapons used in the attack, including a bamboo stick and a brick stained with blood, from the possession of the accused persons.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Santosh Kumar Sao alias Pampam, Sadhu Sao alias Gyani, Shakuntala Devi, Ruby Kumari, Vinay Kumar, Pooja Kumari, and Laxmi Devi alias Dolly Kumari. Forensic experts from the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Ranchi have also collected evidence from the crime scene to support the ongoing investigation.
Officials said Patel had travelled to his native village during the Hul Diwas holiday and had visited the disputed land site to inspect a borewell and submersible pump when he was allegedly attacked. Police added that further investigation is underway and additional legal action will be taken based on emerging evidence in the case.
