Kidnappers shot after attacking police during dramatic chase

In a chilling case that has rocked Bengaluru, two men accused of kidnapping and murdering a 13-year-old schoolboy were shot in the legs and arrested following a dramatic police chase and shootout on Friday.

The accused, Gurumurthy (27) and Gopalakrishna (25), allegedly demanded a ₹5 lakh ransom from the victim’s family before brutally slitting the boy’s throat and setting his body on fire. They were tracked down and apprehended near Bilvaradahalli road after resisting arrest and attacking the police with sharp weapons.

Two police officers were injured in the attack, and both they and the accused are undergoing treatment.

The victim, Nishcith, had gone missing on July 30 after leaving home for tuition. His worried parents, including his father who is a college professor, filed a missing person report at the Hulimavu police station that night. His bicycle was later found near a public park, and his charred remains were discovered on the outskirts of the city near Bannerghatta Road a day later.

Technical surveillance led investigators to the accused, who were known to the boy’s father and worked as drivers. During the arrest operation, the suspects attacked PSI Aravindkumar and PI Kumaraswamy with deadly weapons, forcing the officers to shoot them in the legs in self-defence.

Police confirmed that further investigation into the case is ongoing.
