A 31-year-old woman, daughter-in-law of a retired judge, was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal under circumstances that have triggered allegations of harassment and foul play from her family, police said on Friday. The incident took place on Tuesday night in the Katara Hills area of the city.According to police, the woman, originally from Noida in Uttar Pradesh, had married a Bhopal-based lawyer in December 2025 after reportedly meeting him through a dating app in 2024.

She was found hanging inside the house, and her husband and mother-in-law allegedly rushed her to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.Katara Hills police station in-charge Sunil Kumar Dubey said the woman’s maternal family has alleged murder and raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding her death. He added that a detailed investigation is underway and all aspects of the case are being examined.

The case gained further attention after the woman’s family recounted her final phone call on the night of the incident. They said she contacted her mother around 10:05 pm on Tuesday, during which she appeared distressed. According to her brother, an Indian Army officer, she abruptly disconnected the call after her husband entered the room, raising concern among relatives.The family further claimed that repeated attempts to reach her and her in-laws went unanswered for several minutes.

They alleged that around 10:15 pm, the mother-in-law briefly answered a call and was urged to check on the woman. Within minutes, the family was informed that she was “not breathing”.Police officials have confirmed that statements from family members are being recorded and that the post-mortem report and forensic findings will play a crucial role in determining the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, the woman’s maternal side continues to allege harassment by her in-laws, demanding a thorough and impartial investigation into the case.
