Punjab Police Thwart ISI-Backed Terror Plot in Gurdaspur

AGTF seizes AK-47s, grenades in forest raid

On July 9, 2025, Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) foiled a major terror plot orchestrated by Pakistan-based Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative Harwinder Rinda, backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Acting on human intelligence, AGTF teams, led by Additional DGP Promod Ban, recovered a significant arms cache in a forested area of Gurdaspur before it could reach Rinda’s associates, according to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav.

The seized arsenal included two AK-47 rifles, 16 live cartridges, two magazines, and two P-86 high-explosive hand grenades, intended for attacks across multiple Punjab locations to disrupt public peace, Yadav revealed. Preliminary investigations indicate the consignment was smuggled into India by Pakistani agencies in collaboration with Rinda, who operates from Pakistan. An FIR has been registered under the Explosives Act and the Arms Act at Purana Shala police station, Gurdaspur.

Deputy Inspector General Gurmeet Chauhan highlighted the involvement of foreign-based terrorists in this ISI-backed module, with expectations of recovering more arms soon. “The probe is ongoing to identify and apprehend Rinda’s operatives,” Yadav stated on X, emphasizing Punjab Police’s commitment to dismantling organized crime networks. The operation underscores Gurdaspur’s strategic significance for ISI-backed Khalistani groups, leveraging its border proximity for smuggling and sleeper cell activities.
