Punjab in Separate War! This Time Against Drugs! 10,000 Smugglers Nabbed since March 1st

Punjab’s ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ Campaign Crushes Drug Networks: Over 10,000 Smugglers Nabbed, 398 kg Heroin Seized

Punjab Police have arrested 10,444 drug smugglers and registered 6,280 FIRs since March 1, 2025, as the state’s aggressive “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, launched to eradicate the drug menace, marked its 72nd day.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directive to make Punjab drug-free has driven relentless operations across all 28 police districts, led by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav.

Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla, overseeing the campaign, reported seizures of 398 kg heroin, 186 kg opium, 117 quintals poppy husk, 8 kg charas, 135 kg cannabis, 2.5 kg crystal methamphetamine, 1.2 kg cocaine, 23.57 lakh intoxicant pills, and ₹8.58 crore in drug money.

“Police teams have conducted cordon and search operations, night domination, and raids at drug hotspots,” Shukla stated, highlighting the campaign’s intensity.

The state’s three-pronged strategy—enforcement, de-addiction, and prevention—has yielded results, with 104 individuals persuaded to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation. Notable busts include the May 8 arrest of two operatives in Amritsar with 10 kg heroin, linked to an international smuggling ring.

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, heading a cabinet sub-committee, emphasized in-depth probes into major hauls, like the 4 kg heroin seizure involving a DRI official. The campaign’s success underscores Punjab’s resolve to dismantle drug networks, though cross-border smuggling remains a challenge.
