Huge Drug Bust! NCB Seizes Rs 547 Crore Drugs in Multi-State Crackdown

NCB Seizes Rs 547 Crore in Drugs, Arrests 15 in Multi-State Crackdown

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized drugs worth Rs 547 crore and arrested 15 individuals in a four-month operation spanning Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Friday.

Shah hailed the Amritsar Zonal Unit’s efforts as a “giant stride” toward a drug-free India under PM Narendra Modi’s vision, emphasizing the government’s zero-tolerance policy.

The NCB confiscated 1.36 crore psychotropic tablets, including Tramadol and Alprazolam, 11,693 Codeine-based cough syrup (CBCS) bottles, and 2.9 kg of Tramadol powder.

Raids on April 20-21 targeted J R Pharmaceuticals in Haridwar, seizing CBCS bottles and Tramadol powder, while 19,25,200 tablets were recovered from Embit Bio Medix in Himachal Pradesh and 1.17 crore tablets from Aashi Pharmaceutical in Delhi.

The probe, launched in December 2024 after intercepting a fake medical professional in Amritsar with 3,500 tablets, exposed a nexus of manufacturers and fake stockists.

The Embit Bio Medix proprietor, arrested on April 18 at Delhi’s IGI Airport, had concealed a prior license cancellation. Dummy firms like M/s Tiwari Medical Agency, a sweet shop, facilitated diversions. Further raids uncovered 9,01,084 CBCS bottles and 1.24 lakh Alprazolam tablets.

The NCB, coordinating with GST, State Drug Controllers, and financial authorities, continues to probe the network, expecting more seizures. Citizens are urged to report drug trafficking via the MANAS helpline (1933).
