Police Seize Foreign Liquor Worth ₹12.72 Lakh From Truck in Jharkhand’s Palamu
Jharkhand police seized liquor worth ₹12.72 lakh from a truck in Palamu; the driver was arrested.
In a dramatic crackdown, police in Jharkhand’s Palamu district intercepted a trailer truck carrying foreign liquor worth Rs 12.72 lakh on September 11. Acting on a tip-off, authorities learned that a large consignment was being smuggled from Nawabazar in Palamu toward Aurangabad in Bihar. Superintendent of Police Reeshma Ramesna spearheaded a vehicle-checking operation along the Medininagar-Aurangabad main road, leading to the truck’s interception.
The driver, attempting to mislead officers, claimed the truck was loaded with white cement. However, his story quickly unraveled when he failed to produce any valid documentation to support his claim. Suspicious, the police escorted the vehicle to Chatarpur police station for a thorough inspection, determined to uncover the truth behind the suspicious cargo.
A meticulous search revealed a staggering 6,360 bottles of various foreign liquor brands concealed within the truck. The haul, valued at Rs 12.72 lakh, exposed the scale of the smuggling operation. The driver was immediately arrested, and the truck was seized as evidence, marking a significant blow to illegal liquor trafficking in the region.
