The Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Palghar police apprehended a 54-year-old Nigerian national, Yakub Gaffar Olasunkami, after seizing 57 grams of Methadone, a potent narcotic commonly known as MD drug, valued at Rs 11.4 lakh. The arrest took place in Virar’s Global City area, where officers observed the suspect acting suspiciously, prompting a thorough search that uncovered the concealed drugs.
The operation, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Madan Ballal, resulted in Olasunkami’s immediate custody. A resident of Nalla Sopara, the accused now faces charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The seizure marks a significant blow to illegal drug trafficking in the region, highlighting the vigilance of Palghar’s law enforcement in combating narcotic-related crimes.
Authorities are actively investigating the origins of the seized Methadone and the intended recipients of the consignment. “We are tracing the network involved in the supply chain to dismantle the broader drug trafficking operation,” Ballal stated, underscoring the police’s commitment to rooting out illicit drug activities in the district.
