Palghar Police Foil Robbery Plot, Arrest 11 With Weapons

Crime branch teams nabbed 11 suspects in Vasai, seizing arms and preventing a planned bungalow robbery.

Police in Maharashtra’s Palghar district foiled a planned armed robbery in Vasai, arresting 11 individuals, many with extensive criminal records, on Tuesday night. Acting on a tip-off, authorities apprehended the suspects near a fabrication workshop in Ram Rahim Nagar, Evershine City, where they allegedly intended to loot a bungalow, according to an official police release.

The operation involved a coordinated effort by the Crime Branch Cell-2 Vasai and officers from Waliv, Manikpur, and Achole police stations, who laid a trap around 10 p.m. The arrested individuals, hailing from Ulhasnagar, Virar, Kandivali, Mumbai, and Kolkata, face charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Maharashtra Police Act for attempted dacoity and violating prohibitory orders against carrying arms. Many are repeat offenders with prior cases of murder, attempted murder, robbery, dacoity, and drug violations across the Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar districts.

Police seized a country-made revolver, four live cartridges, a chopper, knives, scissors, a hammer, nylon rope, chilli powder, mobile phones, railway tickets, and cash, collectively valued at over ₹1.77 lakh. The confiscated items suggest a well-planned operation, with chilli powder likely intended to disorient victims. No injuries were reported during the arrests.
