Odisha Lecturer Arrested For Parading Estranged Wife Over Adultery Allegation
Police arrested a lecturer and a friend in Puri for assaulting and humiliating a woman over adultery suspicion.
Odisha Police arrested a 43-year-old college lecturer and his associate in Nimapada town, Puri district, on charges of assaulting and publicly humiliating the lecturer’s 37-year-old estranged wife and her male companion, suspecting an extramarital relationship. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, has sparked widespread outrage after a video purportedly showing the assault and public parading went viral on social media, though its authenticity remains unverified by PTI.
The lecturer, accompanied by his friend, allegedly forced entry into the woman’s rented residence, where she had been living separately for several years with her 14-year-old son. Police reports indicate the accused assaulted the woman and her companion, a fellow teacher, before dragging them onto the street, where they were publicly humiliated. The lecturer claimed his wife was involved in an extramarital affair, an allegation both she and her companion denied.
“We have arrested the lecturer and his associate on charges of outraging the modesty of a woman, physical assault, and public humiliation,” said Bamadev Swain, inspector-in-charge of Nimapada police station. The accused face charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including assault and criminal intimidation. Police seized a hammer, garlands, a mobile phone, and a motorcycle used during the incident.
