Palghar Drug Bust: ₹10.8 Lakh in Opium, Ganja Seized, Two Arrested

Police chase yields major narcotics haul

In a significant crackdown, Palghar police seized drugs worth ₹10.8 lakh and arrested two individuals in separate operations, officials confirmed on Tuesday. The seizures, involving opium and ganja, highlight ongoing efforts to curb narcotics trafficking in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, a known hotspot for drug activities.

On Monday night, during a patrol on Mokhada-Trimbak road, police spotted a speeding car. When signaled to stop, the driver attempted to flee but abandoned the vehicle in Chinchur village. A search revealed 111.42 kg of opium valued at ₹7.8 lakh and two fake number plates, said Superintendent of Police (Palghar Rural) Yatish Deshmukh. The driver remains at large, with a manhunt underway.

In a separate operation on Sunday, Talasari police intercepted two suspects, aged 24 and 38, from Palghar and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, near a hotel in Ibadpada. They seized 2.33 kg of ganja worth ₹3 lakh, along with two motorcycles and mobile phones. The duo was arrested under the NDPS Act.
